Have you ever wondered what is the difference between the sparkling wine and the champagne? During the seasons, the bottles of sparkling wine and champagne are opened more and more. The question of differences between these bottles arises among the people and they want to know if they are the same. The sparkling wine can be called champagne only if comes from the region in France that is called Champagne. Otherwise, the champagne can be made using Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The actual difference of the sparkling wine and the champagne

The champagne is actually a sparkling wine, but not every sparkling wine can be champagne. But why the presence of bubbles? The sparkling wine is made by the formula of sugar, yeast, alcohol and carbon dioxide. This formula does not allow the gas to escape and when the fermented wine is being closed or in a sealed environment, the carbon dioxide goes back in the wine and can be released after the bottle is being opened.
The story of the beginning

The story about the wine and the champagne started by the monk Dom Perignon, who said that he is seeing stars. Later in the period all of the monks in the Champagne area discovered the same effect from the wine.
What are the types of sparkling wine?

Every sparkling wine is different, based on the geographical location and the manufacturers. In Spain there are different types of this wine and one of the best wines have only small bubbles and some creamy texture.
The wines in Italy, those from Veneto region especially, have bigger bubbles and are more suitable for making cocktails, are focused on the fruits.

The wines in Germany and Austria are called Sekt, while in Argentina, Australia, Tasmania and USA, there are great producers of the sparkling wine. There are 3 types of this wine, the fresh type, which is alive and bright in the mouth, it is not exactly sweet but it has the taste of fruit. The other type is the sparkling one with the small bubbles which speak of the wine with great quality. The third type is the precise sparkling wine that can be felt on the tongue with direct penetration. The precision is given by the acid.


The popularity of the sparkling wine
No matter if we talk about the sparkling wine or the champagne, the sparkling wine is getting its popularity among the people. Every meal is accompanied by a glass of sparkling wine, since it is easy to digest and provides good feel. The sweet taste and the bit of fruitiness are also providing the good quality.

Wine of a great quality

One sparkling wine that is of a great quality is “Le Grand Courtage” which won a gold medal in France. It is a blend of the ingredients that go into the champagne, so we can say it is a combination of sparkling wine and champagne.
The term “Champagne” not used correctly

There was a situation where the term “Champagne” was not used correctly. As we said, it was discovered by the monks in Champagne who used to keep the sparkling wine in the bottles during the spring period, since the fermentation process was not good, so the wine wouldn’t be good as well. The monks decided to put back the wine in the bottles and open them when the fermentation will be better. When the temperature was rising, Perignon tasted the wine and since then it is called Champagne.
Same methods

The methods for making the Champagne and the sparkling wine are the same, but since it is considered the Champagne to belong to the area in France, the style of making wine is considered different nowadays. The sparkling wine is made everywhere in the world and people can produce it the same way as it is produced in France.

Definitely the Champagne and the sparkling wine originate from the same place, but the difference in geographic locations made the differences in the making styles of these two drinks. You can find sparkling wines nowadays everywhere in the world, each of them using different techniques in the making process.
